                                         Introduction of Nylon

Nylon 66 exhibits only about half the shrinkage of nylon 6 in steam, for instance. And, with a less open structure, the 66 fiber has good dye wash fastness and UV light-fastness, and excellent performance in high-speed spinning processes. Typical advantages of nylon 66 over nylon 6 are:

  • Higher tensile strength in use
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • Higher melting point
  • Tough fibers at fine deniers
  • Excellent performance for tire applications
  • High-speed mill processing

But after research it is been proved that Nylon 6 is more versatile compare to Nylon 66. Nylon 6 is more eco-friendly, compare to Nylon 66. Nylon 6 will grow more in near future compare to Nylon 66. In near future more and more plants are coming up in Asia with Nylon 6 production facility, hence definitely their will be new various application will be innovated in near future. Because application of Nylon 6 is quite broad compare to Nylon 66 which is as blow.



Almost all new capacity is built in Asia, mainly Nylon-6, hence in the market growth Asian Nylon-6 is by far the dominant in Nylon production. Installation of Nylon 6 plant is also requiring less vertical integration. Recently it was found that Nylon 6 is less toxic while burning compare to Nylon 66, hence in this eco-friendly era growth of Nylon-6 is expected to remain healthy. These results in a very dynamic business environment and entrepreneurs can and are entering the Nylon-6 market.

While original yarns/fabrics used were variations of 840 denier Nylon 6.6 neoprene coated, todays fabrics are primarily nylon 66 lighter denier/dtex, lower dpf yarns, and silicone coated. Typical yarns and constructions being used and evaluated are plain. Below are the fabric construction used in preparing tyre cord fabrics.

  • 210 D/235 dtex, 72X72
  • 315 D/350 dtex, 60X60
  • 420 D/470 dtex, 49X49
  • 525 D/580 dtex, 43X44
  • 630 D/700 dtex, 41X41

Nylon-66 in 2010

While conversation with industry person it was found that Nylon-66 will grow slow and steadily in 2010 as it also has very good fruitful applications like Nylon 66 yarn, conjugate micro filament, tyre cord/fabrics, Agrotech textiles, etc Asian naphtha is responding to the movement of the crude markets, alternately applying and removing some pressure from Caprolactam and PA 6 pricing subject to supply tightness in Caprolactam due to both demand and outages. PA 66 and Adipic acid remain long and slightly declining.

DSM recently announced Vision 2010: a new strategy to accelerate growth, innovation, and portfolio quality. DSM's Vision 2010 will build on the strong foundation of the former Vision 2005 program through which a successful shift of DSMs portfolio to specialty life science and performance material products and more stable and higher earnings were realized. With the rapid progress of auto industry in China, the total demand for tyre is predicted to reach 160 million sets by 2010.The annual demand for tyre fabrics is around 10,000 tons in Liaoning Province only. The provincial government pays special attention in the development of the tyre industry and the necessary tyre fabrics projects. The market of this product is potential and the profit will be great. In near future there are few plants coming up with Nylon 66 production facility are as below, Haian Huayang Nylon Co., Ltd. 3 000,000 ton/year nylon 6,6 resin. DuPont Xingda Filaments Co., Ltd. 1 200,000 ton/year nylon 6, 10 Cixi Jieda Nylon Products Co., Ltd. 600,000 ton/year nylon 6, 10 Pingdingshan Hualun Plastics Co., Ltd. 200,000 ton/year transparent nylon resin Yangzhou and Huaian regions 600,000 ton/year.
