Abstract

A study has been attempted to deal with a comparison of compact yarn characteristics spun from three different commercial compact spinning systems namely Rieter's Comfor spin, Sussen's EliTe and LMW's RoCoS systems. In this study, we have compared the properties such as hairiness, imperfections, tenacity and elongation values of yarns produced from the same back process materials by the three different systems separately. The three systems are referred to as system A, system B and system C respectively in this paper. The study has shown that system A and system B produce yarns with better properties. The yarns produced by system C has shown the highest CV% out of all the yarns produced by these systems.

Comparative Study of yarn properties spun by different compact yarn systems

Introduction

In the spinning sector of the textile industry, many new spinning systems emerged in the late 1960s. This was mainly due to the inherent engineering design of the conventional system which proved to be resistant to new developments. Compact spinning is a novel concept generated through re-engineering of conventional ring spinning process by incorporating a pneumatic suction unit to the existing ring spinning system to condense the fibres in the drafting zone. Compact spinning has achieved an improvement in yarn quality and structure due to better use of fibre properties.
